Erdos & Morgan Offers American Business Media Members B-to-B Media Study Package

NEW YORK — September 16, 2003 — For approximately $1100, B-to-B media companies can now commission a simple research study that will clearly show the power of B-to-B media in their own vertical silo.

Erdos & Morgan, an American Business Media (ABM) member, has offered to help ABM media members conduct an abbreviated version of the B-to-B Media Study, which was conducted in 2001.

The study shows readers' attitudes and usage of b-to-b magazines, Web sites and trade shows. To learn more about the 2001 B-to-B Media Study, click here.

Eligible Members:
All publishing members of American Business Media

Introduction and Background:
This proposal is based on a second-tier, abbreviated study recently conducted by Bobit Publishing. The basis of the study is to enable ABM publishing members to replicate five simple, closed-end, multi-punched type questions, by industry or by individual magazine. Such questions have been extracted directly from American Business Media's Study, conducted in 2001. In effect, it is an abbreviated version of the study, about readers' attitudes and their usage of Business-to-Business magazines, Web sites, trade shows, direct mail, sales representation, etc.

Objectives include:

  • Understanding the role of B-to-B media in fulfilling information needs
  • Understanding the manner in which B-to-B advertising affects readers, and their perception of products and services.
  • Gauge the degree by which B-to-B advertising motivates readers in taking specific actions of interest to advertisers.

The study is based on an email sent to subscribers. The publisher determines the total number of the sample pulled. Typically, online surveys bring lower response rates than postal mail. On average, online response rates range between 10% and 20%. However, the dollar investment is for the most part, considerably less.

Using the Bobit Publishing study as a benchmark, this survey was emailed to 11,838 subscribers. A total of 1,986 responses were determined usable to compile data, resulting in a net 16.7% response rate.

Methodology:
Version A:

  • The Publisher pulls the sample from the publication's database, preferably on an nth name basis.
  • The Publisher determines the sample size.
  • The Publisher emails the questions to the list pulled.
  • Erdos & Morgan builds a Web site area for the five questions.
  • Erdos & Morgan provides the URL.
  • Erdos & Morgan tabs the data.
  • Erdos & Morgan forwards the results to the Publisher.
  • Cost: $1,100.00 per survey

Version B:

  • The Publisher pulls the sample from the publication's database, preferably on an nth name basis.
  • The Publisher determines the sample size.
  • Erdos & Morgan emails the questions to the list pulled (Note: This includes a one-time email blast).
  • Erdos & Morgan builds a Web site area for the five questions.
  • Erdos & Morgan provides the URL.
  • Erdos & Morgan tabs the data.
  • Erdos & Morgan forwards the results to the Publisher.
  • Cost: $1,200.00 per survey, plus an additional $150.00 per thousand names emailed.

Note: Erdos & Morgan is pleased to work independently with ABM publishing members, should the publisher wish to divert from this methodology; or to discuss any other type-projects commensurate with their needs.
