| Circulation Studies
New Subscriber Studies
These surveys measure whether new subscribers to a publication are of the same quality as the base of current subscribers. More often than not, the samples for these studies are constructed so that results can be presented by circulation subscription source.
Circulation Renewal Tracking Studies
Designed to be predictive of the kinds of people who are likely to renew, and those who are not. Given this information, publishers can determine trends in the size of these groups, trends in the reasons why renewal efforts are becoming more or less successful, and diagnostics on improving renewal appeals.
Lapsed Subscriber Studies
Are similar to Circulation Renewal Tracking Studies, but only deal with expires and their reasons for not renewing. These types of surveys are conducted after subscriptions have lapsed. Studies of this nature are generally conducted after significant increases in expires have occurred.
Newsstand Intercept Studies
Newsstand purchasers are intercepted shortly after purchase of a publication to determine their reasons for purchasing and frequency of purchasing in this manner. Sometimes cover research is conducted in this manner.
Cover Testing
These studies are used to predict which cover, of three or four alternatives will sell best on the newsstand.
List Testing
Small samples of lists are tested to determine if they meet the demographic and attitudinal requirement of the publication.
